Joint claim JSA

I am out of work but not claiming any benefits as my husband works. He is facing being made redundant soon. I have read that we will have to make a joint claim for JSA. Will he still get his 6 months CB based JSA or will it be income based from the start?

Both. You will get whichever is higher. CB JSA is £71.00 per week and a joint IB JSA claim would be £111.45 a week.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Is the redundancy a definite? If yes, wait until you get the date it will take effect, they have to tell you in advance - then book the interview up with the Job centre as soon as possible. So do not wait. And yes you need to apply as a couple even though he will be the one trying to get the work. Begin work now on your OH's CV, putting down relevant job experiences and anything he does in any spare time, that has any type of skill that could be used in a new job situation. Can open up new avenues to other things. (I used to be clerical in an office, then went to bus driving. Sadly even that is now almost at an end, but this is due to incurable illness.)
  • To make a joint JSA claim both people need to be available for and actively seeking work (unless they have a child under 5).

A joint claim will be on the household income and savings. If your household money is too high then he will get 6 months contribution based.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
