Am with Virgin and for the last couple of days have had very slow connections to certain sites, sometimes not opening at all (Thomas Cook, Virginmedia very slow on my laptop) on son's laptop he can't access Youtube..... Just tried to update Malware and it took abt 30 mins, then a box popped up with error message closed that then Malware opened am running that now...I am on cable and son is wireless... could it be the modem or router? Hope not router it's fairly new.

A problem with the router wouldn't only affect some sites, it'd be all. Same for a problem with the connection between Virgin and the router.
Try setting up a monitor at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/ and then after four hours at least post the URL with the results here. Leave your computer on during that time. It'll help to see whether there are some problems with your connection. High packet loss rates can cause symptoms similar to those that you're reporting.0 -
Your OP is a little confusing, is it your sons laptop on wireless that has the issue? or Both you and him?0

Sorry it's both of us, that's why I'm wondering if it's Virgin and not us. He's just tried IE and it's not working.0 -

I need to join that site? Should I just try ringing Virgin?0 -
Try this before dealing with tech support (good luck).
http://www.speedtest.net/
Run a test, come back with the results
And what is your connection supposed to be ADSL? Fibre? speed?
Then reset/unplug any router/modem you have connected, give it a min or two reboot it. Then run the test again and see if the results are the same/similar.
If spyware etc may be a concern you could internet permitting grab Hijack this, run it and post the log file here.

Sounds like a DNS problem.
Log into your router/SuperHub admin panel, change the DNS settings to manual and enter these IP addresses as primary and secondary DNS.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Save settings, then on each PC click the start button and in the search box type run, then click on run in the programs list. In the window that appears type ipconfig /flushdns (note the space after 'ipconfig').Click on OK You will see another window open briefly then close itself.
Now try your internet connection againHow do I add a signature?0 -

Which router are you using?
If it's the Virgin Media Superhub the details are on a label above the ethernet sockets.
HijackThis - if you do a scan with logfile the log should appear when the scan finishes. Copy/paste itHow do I add a signature?0 -
