Just wondering, if asked to provide proof of my no claims bonus would insurers generally accept me supplying my insurance certificate which states 'NCB: 1' for example (or perhaps NCD..) as I cannot find my renewals certificate or policy number and need to take out new insurance on a new car

Your cert will only show your status last year though won't it and even then I don't think it would be accepted because it doesn't prove you haven't made a claim since then.

Neither will the renewal notice though.

I'm half way through a policy and looking to take out a new policy for a second car which seems to work out cheaper than adding to current policy for some reason :(

You can only use NCB on one car at a time.

As above, however best bet would be to ask your present insurer if they are prepared to give you an introductory discount on the new car or whether they might 'mirror' your original NCB.

If not ,then you will probably have to insure the second vehicle without any NCB.

Basically speaking ,if you want to run two cars you need two seperate NCB'S .

    Ah ok.

Supposing it's not possible to pay a policy in full and receive The bonus early? Probably just wishful thinking. Just finding my policy documents I only actually have 3 months / 2 payments left (how time seems to fly)

Is this a replacement vehicle or an additional vehicle?

    Not possible.

But you have missed the advice given to you.

You can only use your ncd on one car!

Thanks for all the input guys, we're gonna reconsider our options as noting the points made it may be best to hold out for a multi car policy at renewal.

When our renewal quote comes in will this state '2 years NCD'? Will this be all that's required for proof?

No it won't - I tried to use my renewal quote and it wasn't accepted.
I had to get a confirmation letter from the current insurer stating my NCD to pass onto the new insurer. Not a problem getting it, but they did say it could take up to 1o days - actually arrived by return of post.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Okay -- so did you produce a letter for each years NCD? Or did the letter confirm you have 2 years accrued?

Last year all I just gave them the policy number for the 1 yr but can't seem to find it now.. and unfortunately never seen an insurance policy to the end despite driving for a number of years as one car got set on fire and the other was sold shortly after so not sure how all this works :(
