Cineworld Unlimited Card - Cancelling At Lowest Cost

I've held a Cineworld Unlimited card for many years but a recent change in circumstances means I will rarely get to go to the cinema enough to make it worthwhile (nappies, etc..).

From reading the cancellation terms, it appears I would need to give a month's notice so that they can take one last payment, for a month I will not be using. However, I know someone who just cancelled the direct debit without bothering giving notice, and they got nagged for a bit and told their card was invalid but other than that I don't think anything happened.

If I just cancel the direct debit, I will not get charged an extra month. If I cancel the correct way, I will be charged £14.99 for nothing. However I don't know if it would have any implications, e.g. credit record, if Cineworld effectively held a charge of £14.99 against me until I sign up again (if I ever do). I want the cheapest way out, but not at the cost of bigger long term implications? Has anyone done this, or knows about cancelling any kind of account by just stopping payment?

Well you could cancel the direct debit - and wait and see what happens.
If they start to chase you for the £14.99 then you could pay it.

Or give them the month's notice and pay the last £14.99 then you know you won't get charged.

TBH, if it were me, then I would give them the £14.99 by cancelling as per the terms of their contract because then you have the peace of mind knowing you have fulfilled your contractual obligations and your credit record is safe.
