You say the caravans under 900kg so thats a small caravan. Do you know what the caravans unladen and gross laden weight is?

Small engined petrol cars are not ideal for towing. They lack low dfown torque needed for towing. The power probably comes in at 4000rpm+ So thats where you need to keep the revs.

Keeping it under 2000rpm will lack the power required for the hills.

I doubt you have any claim from the garage its a legal match. You should do your homework better next time.

Your outfit is over 2 tons so. approx 44bhp per ton. And 46ft/lb of torque.

Compare that to my Mondeo Diesel with a bigger caravan 50bhp ton, But with 92 ft/lb of torque per ton.

I think your probably not using enough revs, But the cars a bit feeble for towing anyway.

Since 1998 the smallest petrol engine has been 4 litres. So I doubt there are many 4 cylinder petrols about.
