Car Insurance Nightmare

Why is it that insurance companies love to take money off you but they're never as keen to pay out when you make a claim? My car was stolen and found burnt out in November 2006 the insurance company still hasn’t paid out on my loss it’s now been 5 months since the car was declared a write off and I haven't heard anything from my insurance company. To make matters worse I'm still paying the finance on the car so can’t afford to get another until I've been paid out. Can anyone help me out? I keep on calling them on almost a daily basis and get the same response, on almost a daily basis! "Sorry Mr. Morgan but the file handler is un available at the moment"

Any advice would be much appreciated, Richy

Have you had an offer on the vehicle yet?

Assuming you are not hiding anything from us (like a fraud investigation / undeclared vehicle mods / iffy theft circumstances) then yes, the claim is taking too long. Dig out your policy book (or look it up online) and start the formal complaints procedure.

In the same situation I would have kicked that off after about 6 weeks.
  • The problem reguarding the theft is that i lost my key but this was reported to both the police and the insurance company. There is no sort of investigation going on the only thing they've done is declared the car a write off and cancelled the policy.

Are you sure they are not investigating?

Most insurers settle promtly these days (most, not all!!!) and thats the only reason i can see for a delay. Was there any signs of entry to the car?

I would imagine in the circumstances described they would want a full statement and would probably instruct a claims inspector to come out and take a statement.

I agree being fobbed off isnt acceptable though - there is no reason why someone else at the company cannot help. Insist on holding until you get the present position

    Who was the insurer?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
  • The insurer is Elephant. We have had a visit from a claims inspector and given them the crime number and eveything from the police. This was in November though. Since he was out we haven't heard anymore from them appart from a letter accusing me of having driving convictions and not telling them when i toook out the policy. This was a total waste of time as I have a clean license and no convictions at all.
