Car insurance help

Hi
I was wondering if anyone who knew about car insurance could help me.
I have five years no claims (protected) on my current policy which started in May 2012. I have 9 years no claims in total but 4 were as a named driver.
On Thursday I had to make a claim on my insurance as after being parked my MINI due to an electrical fault had an engine bay fire. Fire brigade called etc and fire was put out before it really took hold and destroyed the car.
The car is with the insurance company being assessed as to if it will be repaired or written off.
Will this claim go down as a fault or non fault accident and do you think it will affect my renewal next year. Do insurance companies take into account the reasons for the claims at all or is it just general that once you have made a claim thats its your more of a risk regardless of the circumstances.
Many thanks in advance

Yes, it will be a fault claim and it will very likely affect your premium for next year.
Lots of companys are putting up premiums on even non fault accidents, now that really isnt fair but they are getting away with it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks, just found a really helpful article on the internet - it basically states that unless the insurer can recover the costs from a third party it is classed as a 'fault claim'. So things like fire, theft etc etc.
Do you know how the no claims protection works - in May next year will I still have my five years or will I be starting from scratch again?0 -

I dont think you get the full five, a reduced amount though.0 -
Unless you opted to protect your NCD? If not, you'll probably lose 20% of this at the next renewal.0

op says her no claims is protected. One claim shouldn't affect it.0
