Washing Machine Plumbing in New House

I am considering buying a house which I don't think has the necessary plumbing & drainage for a washing machine in the utility room.

There is a water supply in the room as there is toilet and wash basin in the same room. The utility room is next to the kitchen.

Is it possible to have the necessary plumbing put in if it isn't there and if so would it be an expensive job? Come to think of it I didn't see any power sockets that the machine & tumble dryer would plug into either.

You need to check with the builders.

I see little point in a utility room without power sockets or plumbing for a w/m!
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • It isn't a new build house it is an established home that has been modernized by the vendor and being sold via a solicitor. The vendor has moved elsewhere so they aren't around to ask.

Must look more closely next visit.

On second viewing if house is empty take lots of photos with a good camera and then you can checks, sockets, light fittings, phone/TV points later etc
Carry a tape measure and measure up room sizes if possible. snap away at the garden, drive, garage.
If older property how is the central heating, electrics, windows ( UPVC ) ?

If there is a toilet and washbasin but no power points it does not sound like a utility room, more like a extra toilet.

If there is already a wash basin then there will be a water supply and drainage in situ.
Maybe cold water only but most washers are now cold fill only anyway.

Any competent sparky could run a supply into the room provided the rest of the electrics are relatively modern.

If they are not they may not do it until they are brought up to current standard.
Of course I am hypothesising and everything may be nice and modern but you should be prepared. Are for example the existing 13 amp sockets still on the skirting boards or a few inches above them?
The former would suggest an old installation which needs updating.
But then you won't know much about this until you have the place surveyed.
