Temorary job then back to JSA and HB

Hiya, a question on behalf of a family member. He is aged 48, lives in a 1-bed privately-rented flat and was signing on and claiming HB up until three weeks ago, when he was successful in getting a 12 week temporary job. He is hoping that this will lead to permanent employment, but if it doesn't, will he be affected by the recent changes to LHA? What I mean is, will he have to make a new HB claim and end up being told he can't keep his flat? Because if so he is going to need to start looking for a bedsit now, I've had a read of some DirectGov stuff but not clear whether a new claim would be classed as such after 12 weeks off benefits or not - can anyone clarify please?

    What recent changes to LHA?

In January, the age limit for a 1 bedroom LHA entitlement was raised from 25 to 35 so this doesn't affect him.

Remember that some people in employment still qualify for LHA and council tax benefit so get him to check his entitlement on the Turn2us online benefit calculator. The majority of HB claimants work.
  • Oh OK thanks for the info, he had thought that it was all ages, that is good news for him then. Thinking about it the person who told him he was likely to have to move is a chap who is 32 so that probably explains the confusion. Well, fingers crossed he won't have to go back on benefits anyway, but good to know he's not going to have to move.
