OH thinks our Focus needs the AC regassed. Any ideas as to current costs and any garage recommendations please? There was a thread in 2009 about using Kwikfit but it is now closed. Thanks for reading.

I totally disagree.
KwikFit only charge you if they make the air cooler, therefore if there is a cracked pipe or a problem, they wont charge you but will be able to tell you where the problem is. I'd a 407 and took it for a regas - it turned out there was a cracked pipe, they told me where the leak was and didnt charge me. i ordered the pipe from Peugeot, fitted it myself, then took the car back and got it regassed successfully this time.
So a 'free' diagnosis then a £49 regas.0 -
yeah - this is the one area where kwik-fit seem to be pretty good at it. and it's still £49.
that said, my wife's BMW has just been done by our BMW for £49 dealer which included a A/C clean. She has a new car so it didn't really smell anyway, but my car is a couple of years old and I got mine done (also by the same BMW dealer - but paid £59 last year!) and it was an excellent job. In the past I have taken other BMWs to independent places - a little auto-electrical place in Preston - and paid just £40.
I guess it pays to shop around - there are loads of places doing the re-gas these days.0 -
Take it to any garage that advertises aircon work - and nearly everywhere does these days.
In theory, since a machine does nearly all the work, you should be safe using Kwik Fit.
However this is not the case.
I stopped going to Kwik Fit many years ago when during a routine tyre change they destroyed my wheel nut key and did unauthorised work on the previously perfect factory set tracking and the steering alignment (which has NEVER been right since).
However this summer I was desperate to get the aircon fixed and it was the only place that would do there and then. After the machine re-gassed the system they failed to perform any checks. They dropped the bonnet, started it up and sat revving it for a painfully long time. They did not stop doing so even with the smell and smoke - the aircon compressor had seized and burned the belt. I got a “not my fault” and the keys handed back.0
