I've just noticed my local Post Office and many other larger branches have started opening on a Sunday for 3 hours. Can anyone tell me how long this has been happening? It's going to be very useful for banking transactions.

They were opening to sell the Olympic stamps I believe, I don't think its a long term thing.0

As helix says it might be for the new stamps, thik its only a temporary thing.0

on passing our today noticed it was open and thought oo thats handy to know. Then saw the sign saying open for duration of the olympics with this Sunday being the last of three that they will open for.
Obviously not carrying on during the paralympics!!!!0 -
I know that September 2010 when we bought our car we had to tax it and found a PO that was open on Sunday. It was in an out of town supermarket somewhere in Surrey (can't actually remember where now - Guildford maybe?). Annoyingly, we drove all the way there to discover the counter was closed that weekend for refurbishment. Doh!
So, some have been opening Sundays for almost 2 years at least."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -
I know of 2 which are open on Sundays in this area
1 in a Waitrose/John Lewis store & 1 "Local" which is open when the village shop is open. The village shop PO is useful when I have a good clear-out of stuff on ebay, end the auctions on the Saturday and get rid of some of the parcels on the Sunday (I know they won't go anywhere til Monday, but it says me having to queue up on Monday)0 -

Shhhh don't tell everyone! The queues can be quite long at time especially at the end of the month when everyone wants to tax their car.
Seriously though it's my local post office and the 7 day opening is really useful.0 -
The bulk of PO's are now 'sub' Post Offices, they take the opening time of their host. Our PO moved into Safeway and became the only PO in town to process Passport applications etc as it was open 7 days from 0900-1800 Mon-Fri and 1000-1500 on Sundays.
Morrison's then took over from Safeway and gave notice there didn't want to run a sub-PO. After 10 years, we lost our Sunday PO.0
