SUGGESTION: subscription notification by PM rather than email

Some other sites I visit allow your subscription notification to be delivered by PM rather than email. This site only appears to allow email notifications. Would it be possible to enable PM notifications instead?
To make it useful, the following behavior is what works well on other sites:
As soon as a new post is posted on one of your subscribed threads, you get a PM. You don't receive any other PMs for that post for new threads.
Once you check your PM and view the thread, then it resets the PM notification. Another new post in the thread will trigger a PM.
This way, you don't get flooded with PMs and it also auto-balances the level of notifications you get. If you check the site frequently and your PMs, then you can view notifications frequently. If you only check daily or so, then you will get your notifications daily.
This also eliminates the problem of people getting notifications to their spam filters, and I assume it would be less of a load on the site since it's a PM instead of an email send.
