Indesit Washer Dryer

Hi
We bought an Indesit washer dryer from littlewoods approximately 3 months ago and in that time we have had 4 call outs to the machine due to it making the clothes stink when using the dryer. First we had a engineer call who said it was because the machine was new and we had to let it bed in. Approximately a month later we called them out again as the smell was still there, this time the same engineer came out and was very arrogant and said he couldn't smell anything although the smell is very strong and we have asked numerous people to make sure its not just us and they all say it stinks (it has a kind of burnt rubber smell to it), I then wrote in to indesit complaining both about the machine and the engineer and the fact that they had tried to charge us £50 for a call out fee for calling the engineer. They rang back saying the charge would be dropped and they would send out another technician to have a look. The technician came and he changed some parts in the machine saying that the smell would be due to it overheating. This did not change a thing the clothes still stank if I used the dryer, so we rang littlewoods to ask them to collect the machine and offer us a refund. They said that they could only do this if a technician condemed the machine and they sent a fourth technician out. This one agreed that the clothes stank but basically said he could not condem the machine as it is doing what it should be. He said if you choose to have a washer dryer the smell is something that you have to accept as that is what they do.
I was just wondering if anyone new if there was anything we could do about this as I don't want to accept that if I use the dryer the clothes will stink (and they really really stink), I can't believe that this is just something you have to live with if you choose a washer dryer as I paid £300 extra for a machine to have a dryer incorporated into it.
Anyway sorry for the long ramble and thanks in advance
Debbie

I'm on my second Indesit washer/dryer and neither of them have made the washing stink after drying. So thisHe said if you choose to have a washer dryer the smell is something that you have to accept as that is what they do.
In your shoes I'd get a local repair firm to take a look/smell, write a report, tell Littlewoods the machine isn't fit for purpose and if they don't replace/refund within 28 days I'll see them in the small claims court. (and in Page 5 of The Sun if it's scratching around for human interest stories)......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Sorry to bring this post up again, but we are still in a dilema over this and after the 5th engineer came out to look at our machine and agreed the clothes smell he said he was going to put a stop to engineers coming out to the machine and force indesit or littlewoods to make a decision on whether or not they are going to replace or refund the machine, anyway their decision was no on both sides. We did initially ask littlewoods for a refund which would have been in the 90 days your meant to be allowed to accept the goods and they refused, as it had to be condemed and since the first engineer said it just needed bedding in there was nothing we could do about this, obviously five engineers and some parts latter we are still in the same boat, the machine is still making our clothes stink when drying. I can't afford to get a local repair firm to come out and take a look at the machine and am hoping I am covered still by the sale of goods act i.e not fit for purpose although we have had the machine for some time now, but that is due to them sending endless engineers out then refusing to do anything, could anyone advise me whether I would be covered by this and if there are any template letters I could use.

Hi Debbie, I wonder if you've had any joy yet? I got a new indesit washer dryer a couple of months ago and have the same problem. I thought it might settle down and stop smelling but from what you've written it sounds like this won't happen. J0

Wish i'd read this before i bought mine, stinking is not the word0

Same with ours but its a hotpoint, Ive run it several times on full heat with nothing in to burn off any residual grease, dust etc.
After about a dozen attempts Ive pretty much given up, Ive checked the thermostats etc and they are all ok0 -
Well I contacted Very who i bought washer off
They told me to contact Indesit direct on 0844 822 4224
i have an engineer coming on Tuesday of next week but if its not a manufacturing fault i have to pay £60 or £120, I politely told person on line there is definately something wrong and if engineer says anything less and "demands" money he would be shown the door!
She then tried to sell me another years cover for £7.50 a month (covering all call outs and parts even if its user error! and covering the call out I just arranged) i said no but she offered to ring me Monday (before engineer comes) to discuss this cover again, talk about scare mongering.
Got every intention of running washer/dryer an hour before engineer comes so he can witness the smell given off and on the clothes. WILL UPDATE
