I have done a daft thing! PayPal Help Needed

I can't believe I have done this but

Sold an item for £220, buyer paid using PayPal but it was an echeque, we both couldn't believe how long it took, he kept emailing me saying how long until I ship, he even contacted PayPal to see how long it took.

To cut a long story short I shipped the goods before I received confirmation from PayPal that the payment has cleared, the paypal status is now showing as "cancelled", I didn't cancel it, but I can guess who did.

The buyer even e-mailed me and asked me to send him a copy of the receipt for his guarantee!

Is there anything I can do??

morning chips, I'm no good with paypal as I only use it if I have to, I'm sure someone will be along sortly, but in the mean while try not to worry to much hon, Can we ask what the item was, if a mobile then there's the imei number. Chin up and hopefully everything will be ok
  • All you can do is ask the buyer to pay again. I am afriad it's your fault for sending before the payment had cleared.
Failing that you could always put in a claim with the small claims court. Let the buyer know your prepaired to do this, this might get them to cough up the dosh.

Doesn't sound good to be honest. It states on PayPal that you must wait for the eCheque to clear before posting out items. It sounds like the buyer has not only done a runner with the cash but also with the goods.

Gather all the Ebay, Paypal and Royal Mail stuff ( print scan of sig from RM website), all emails etc and get yourself down the police station ! Worked for me ! Local force got their colleagues 200 miles away to knock on the guys door to 'remind' him about the 'outstanding payment'.

I would request the buyers contact details and try to call him.

Oops, yes of course ! Try this first, THEN if no joy go straight to my last post :D

I do hope you manage to get things sorted.

    What was his ebay feedback?

If it was the dreaded zero he was probably a scammer.

I'm afraid Paypal are pretty useless at sorting out things like this, I once sold a dvd player and the buyer reversed the transaction, all paypal did was accuse me of doing the reverse even though I had not.

You have his home address, if paypal and ebay provide you with no joy, you could threaten to visit him. I'd definetly drop by his house if I was out by £200+ and he did not live too far from me. Make sure you bring a few well built mates, however I am not condoning you beat the !!!!!! out of him.

There's also the police, use them, it's what you pay your taxes for.

To be fair it's not PayPal's fault. The OP sent out the item before the echeque cleared.

um are we even sure you can cancel an echeque once it's been sent?
Buyer may simply not have had sufficent funds in his bank account when paypal went to take it and it bounced. Have you tried simply emailing the buyer chips?
