But then there is the secondary tax, National insurance I earn under that thereshold and the second job could be taxed overall less than the first job.

You might give Abba the benifit of doubt but........

Second income is not taxed more than if it was more first income.

Untill you get to around the 40% tax levels overall 2 jobs are taxed/NI less than 1 job.

Even when you get to the higher rate tax, there is still a saving on NI is there not?

its not exactly higher rate but thats one trigger point where things start to change

When you reach the upper limit in one job the NI drops by 10% so extra earnings NI at 2 % where as extra earning in the second job between the lower and upper earning are at the 12% rate.

so the savings start to reduce,,

lower limit 146 (primary thereshold for paying NI)
    upper limit 817

here aresome of the combos(weekly earnings NI in the matrix)

    .............0...........146.........292.......817........1634
    ......0.....0.............0..........17.52...80.52.......96.86
    ..146.....0..............0.........17.52....80.52.......96.86
    ..292....17.52.......17.52....35.05....98.04......114.38
    ..817....80.52.......80.52....98.04....161.04.....177.38
    1634....96.86.......96.86....114.38...177.38.....193.72
