Personally I would be sending a letter to the head of the customer services team. Keep the letter factual and unemotive. Bullet point order of sequence is useful.

Ensure that you accept responsibility for the payment mix up but also point out the email bit. Also add in the detail of how "Matthew - probably isn't his real name - spoke to you and give the date and time of the call. You should be able to get this from your phone bill which will enable them to trace the call.

Doubling the premium is rather harsh and you may be able to resolve it with them.

post#13 reported for post-building pre-spam; it's simply an extract from OP's previous post.
  • To put it bluntly , it's not the companies fault you missed your dd, whichever way you look at it where're you where on holiday etc. etc. etc.

Better news but, you are not blacklisted at all. There is no such database that tells insurance companies you've had a previous policy cancelled. I'd phone some companies and advise them what happened, most companies it doesn't affect the price.

No1: Call then back and ask to speak with their Customer Relations Team (CRT).
No2: Make a formal complaint about the way that the adviser spoke with you.

Under the Financial Services Act (FSA) they must deal with your complaint/problem within an exact timeframe, for which they should notify you of the period.
If you are not happy with the outcome of this, then contact the Financial Ombudsman Service for further help.

Just bear in mind that it is probably in their terms and conditions that the onus is on you to make sure that your payment are made on time. Technically they are in the right, morally, that is another matter.
The most important thing that you must do is keep the dialogue going with them.

if you read the OPs post properly, you will see that they didnt miss a dd, the policy payments were coming off as a recurring card payment, but the OP thought it was dd, (as most other things are).

i agree with the above posters OP. get your complaint in sharpish. might be worth making a mention of the time frame involved i.e the 14 days you have to cancel your new policy
