Revamping patio

My patio is just old 3x2 grey council type paving slabs, I don't have the money to renew them but wondered if there was a way to revamp them, searched Internet but there is loads of different views, some say dyes or stains, just wondered if anyone has any experience with this and any tips or recommendations? X
