We we went we found free parking at Brighton Marina, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the pier or a short journey on the electric train. Parking near the Brighton Pier seafront area is very expensive we found.

yep the marina is the only free parking I know in Brighton.
But DO NOT get confused and park in Asda they check and clamp etc.
    Park in the multistorey.

It is a council run multi story car park, but just looked on the site as we went a year ago and it says up to four hours are free, but there wasn't a ticket barrier or any cameras when we parked there for longer than that, so don't know if they enforce the four hours in reality. Also seems no mention of a penalty fine for parking longer than that there.

I expect someone who lives near Brighton Marina will have more knowledge about how strict they are on the four hours free parking. Other than that it might be less expensive to get the train or coach into Brighton rather than paying for parking.

Surely on hot days or weekends it will be full by 10 am?

I was lovely weather during the weekend when we went and had no problem finding a space there. It must have been about lunchtime when we arrived as we had lunch at the Pizza Express at the marina. I would say it might be busier in the evening as there were a lot of restaurants overlooking the marina and a cinema there.

    yep it's a multistorey carpark.
Never seen it anywhere near full on the times we've been down. It is a quite a way from the main attractions of Brighton tho, so am guessing that why. There is a an Asda, Maccys think a pizza express, cinema, casino and cinema nearby. Plus a few shops and a couple of pubs.

There is still space in there on Sundays, when they hold a car boot in there!!!
