Possible new job - Wedding and honeymoon in 11 weeks?

Hey. I've gone for a new job and should find out next Monday if I got the job or not. Realllly excited but a bit concerned now as in the interview they stressed how much they disliked absence (which is fair enough!) but I'm getting married in 11 weeks (on a Friday) then going on honeymoon for 2 weeks immediately after. All in all it's about 12 days I had booked off with my current employer.

I haven't been asked about any pre-booked holiday and I haven't volunteered this information. I understand I won't have accrued enough time to get this full amount of holiday paid and would be willing to take it as unpaid if need be because it's my wedding and honeymoon so v important. If I do get the offer and inform them they can't retract my job offer can they? I've got images of handing in notice and being totally effed up!

You should really have mentioned this to them at interview.

I would be inclined to call them and let them know as they can rescind an offer and you would then be without work!

Eep! It's just the interviews were super pressured nd I never reallly got the opportunity you know. I was always under the impression that it was honoured. Omg. I really hope the wont happen. I'll call the recruiter on Monday and tell them. I really feel this could be a deal breaker for it :(
    Really want/need this job!

If you haven't got the job yet don't worry until they make an offer. If the offer comes in, then bring it up. If the offer doesn't come in, you've not really lost anything.

This is what I was going to do. I didn't want bring up any "me" questions (holiday, salary, benefits etc) when I was still going for the role. Then when/if I got the job go from there.

Not sure I understand the dilemma? If you get an offer, you phone the decision maker and tell them that before you can accept the offer you need to confirm the time off. Either they will let you take the time off and you accept the job, or they won't and you presumably decline it. The only issue is if you accept without telling them you need time off and spring it on them on your first day, in which case you are correct that you may end up in difficulties.

Is it an option to stay where you are for another 11 weeks and start the new job in 13 weeks time?

It is best to mention any holiday plans you already have at interview as this makes it easier for the prospective employer. They are far more likely to honour it given as much notice as possible. I would tell them as soon as possible and if offered the job you must tell them right away. I remember somone posting that they didn't inform the employer until starting the job and the holiday was refused.

  • Thanks guys. I think this is the way forward. I wont take tr job. Score informing the. (if I get it. Chickens counting etc!) it's just the comment about absence Ive sort of being rolling around in my head and it's been such a long process I'd hate for it to be for nothing. Xxx
  • Errr iPhone... I won't take the job, if offered, before letting them know about my plans.

That's a slightly odd thing to say, IMO. Did they elaborate? They do pay at least 5.6 weeks leave each year, don't they?

It's not 'absence' is it, it's a holiday. They really could have asked you then as most people do 'do you have any holiday booked' and they didn't?

Wait to see if you get the job before you say anything.
