Places to stay in Canterbury?

My OH has her graduation in May at Canterbuty. Blooming long way to go for it, considering the course was in Plymouth. Still need a hotel or B & B for an overnighter.... any ideas welcome.

There are two travalodges near Canterbury - Dunkirk and Whitstable. Both have rooms for £26 a night per family for most of May. We have stayed at the Whitstable one. Free parking at the lodge and about 6 miles fron Canterbury. Parking in the city is not cheap, but there is a park & ride.

we live not far and if you are after a cheapy go for the whitstable travel lodge as above - it has a beefeater (The Long Reach) on site and is much nicer than the one at dunkirk (which is on the busy A2 and only has a garage and a little chef) and you can pop in to whitstable which is charming and herne bay is always a nice day for the kids if the sun is shining is only 10mins along the thanet way

If you want somewhere nicer then Abbotts hotel is nice, and there are lots of B&Bs on the New Dover Road although there is always a premium for being near the centre

let me know if you need any other info eg places to park and stuff

We have also stayed at the Whitstable Travelodge; it's very reasonable indeed, they were just recarpeting it throughout when we stayed. Whitstable is also worth a visit if you get bored of Canterbury. :)

There is a Little Chef on site if you are desperate or you can get a sandwich from the garage next door. We preferred to just have a cuppa in the room and then have breakfast in Canterbury or Whitstable. Had a huge breakfast for about £4 at the cafe opposite the Kings school. Couldn`t eat again until the evening.

I live very near too, plenty of places to eat in Whitstable, you can take your pick. You could also try looking for accommodation in Faversham, thats not too far from Canterbury. If you plan to spend any time in Canterbury, try and use the park and ride, £2 a go, much cheaper than car parks.

I guess we will be at the UNI for the reception at 5pm, then on to the cathedral for the presentation. In the morning unfortunately we have to start back home as we have a commitment in Cornwall before 5pm. So the brekky will have to be west bound....
No I am not eating at little chef.

Go to Faversham Wetherspoons, then - it's not far from the Travelodge and it's very nice. :)

    hello!!
are we talking about the same place - the decent travelodge is on the old thanet way Whitstable, by the Long Reach (which is a beefeater) you get breakfast in there - you would NOT want to be driving to faversham from here will take 20mins you'll be starving, the Travelodge at Dunkirk (canterbury on the A2) is the one with the little chef and is gross you would be gutted if you stayed here
