redundancy/slef employed and JSA question

Hi MSErs,

I am due to be made redundant soon. Alongside my job, I do mystery shopping and am registered self employed. (I only earn about £10 a week for this on average, before tax and expenses).

I haven't found a job yet, so intend to apply for JSA for a few months.

My question is, do I need to de-register as self employed to claim my JSA? As its such a small amount I earn Self Employed, I would lose out a lot by not claiming JSA.

I would be grateful for any advice,
SFGx

You can claim JSA if you are working under 16 hours a week, as I understand it.
Your earnings will be taken into account (other than a 5 pound disregard?)

    Thanks Roger,

I think i'd perhaps better phone up and make sure. I worry about getting myself into a pickle!
