I have a tag diving watch. To get a new battery waterproofed it needs to be sent off (about £50 I think) and takes 2 weeks but goldsmiths fit a normal unwaterproof 1 for about £10. I have never found a high street store that can do tne waterproof seal
    June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

    July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550

    October challenge £100 a day. £385/£3100

I guess disidigi hit the nail on the head.

In the past I have taken it to a place that charges more for a battery replacement although, the place a took it now charges £6 for the job, it wasn't just any place..... it's an established watch repair shop and the premises are bigger than the other place so I had no reason to suspect anything could go wrong. I didn't chose the place to save a few quids (£7) but I was shopping in the area and that suited me better (not knowingly I was taking a risk)

I didn't see the sign and there was not a verbal warning so I left my watch. Had he said that he could not guarantee the watch be water proof I would have walked away.

One more point, he examined the watch in front of me and he thought the seal was good but I was unlucky. I really think he should have given me a verbal warning.

I wonder if it's worthy to have it fix now...... I mean, can be saved after water has come in?

It depends, it certainly can be saved, usually they just replace the mechanism (as in the case of high end watches the majority of the value is in the strap...)

I'm lucky - my local jeweler happens to be a fully fledged Rolex service center and it was my tag they did for under £20 and the only reason it took three hours was to allow them to pressure test it.

The send off to Tag scenario is an utter blag. The retailers get a significant cut just for posting it off.

    Legally, very tricky.

You would need to produce evidence that the guy actually did something wrong. Even then you would need to establish that the disclaimer of liability was valid: i.e. brought to your attention at the time the contract was made, reasonable, not unfair, etc.

    Will be difficult.

How do you figure that one out? Most Casios are battery operated.

I agree a bit naughty of them but they will never catch you out again.

As a slight aside I decided I was sick to death of them wanting £30+ to guarantee watches would be waterproof after battery replacement that I have now moved to automatic/kinetic watches now.

I have a nice Seiko kinetic for everyday wear that never ever leaves my wrist and a cracking Christopher Ward watch for dress wear.

His watches have good swiss movements and although they are not as cheap as they were before the £ sank a bit against the Euro you would pay a fortune for these watches on the high street.

I also have a Seiko kinetic, lovely watch but unfortunately it died after 3 years and then I got the Tissot I currently have for everyday use.

I also have a very flashy Swiss watch for occasions - it was a gift from my kids, otherwise I would have got rid of it by now.

No its usually the strap that breaks.....£20 for a watch that lasts 5 years, ok in my book. And you dont have to be too worried about losing it.

I have a Seiko that automatically winds in response to the movement of my wrist, I vigorously give it a good winding twice a day.

There are different degrees of waterproof-ness for wactches - what exact words and markings are on your watch (you need to look on the back of the watch, as well as the face).
