How to deal with trolls

So the latest troll has gone thankfully. But again people are making mistakes

1) report post/thread only
2) mark the post as spam
3) don't reply to a troll
4) don't quote a troll

Advise newbies that it's a troll posting and to ignore the advice given without trying to reason with the troll. Reporting works well the posts and user is normally gone within a couple of hours.

It baffles me how they get back. If you IP ban them, i doubt a single one knows how to get round it, most of them cant even spell 'IP Ban'

They don't ip ban on here, they just ban users if they are reported. And it goes onto the next one they create

I do worry about marking some short, one line posts as Spam, when they really aren't promoting a commercial position (albeit in isolation), but it's the only way I can think of to mark the post as reported. It's not easy to keep track of them all and make sure you've got them all, without duplicating any.

And also make a mental note to go back and tidy up any responses to deleted posts.

I know that it isn't easy, but the best way is to totally blank them (him) out. He isn't worth wasting electrons on.
