OP - do you have a "street-pride" scheme in your area?
Theres one here in Derby where you can call if theyve missed your bin and they will come and sort it within 48hrs. You can also use the number to report graffiti, pot holes etc.
If you get the problem again where your bin is over-full - couldnt you call them up and tell them theyve missed your bin, put in the bags that were previously on the side?£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
Are disposble nappies cheaper then reusables?
Once you factor everything in, these days there's not a vast amont of difference. The main thing is the initial outlay required to actually get reusable nappies; whereas disposable you can just buy as you need them.LisaLou1982 wrote: »OP - do you have a "street-pride" scheme in your area?

Actually there is, and I feel a bit daft for not thinking of this idea sooner.
Thankfully my parents came to visit for my birthday over the weekend and kindly gave me a lift to the tip with the current excess. Now I just need to get the council to see sense about me needing a larger bin for the new baby's extra nappies. Otherwise I'll probably have to start adding all plastic to my recycling, even the stuff they don't want...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
This might be an OK solution. Put your nappies in a plastic bag and drop them in a local bin when taking the kids to the park. if people can bin their dog waste in this way - why can't you bin your child waste? Surely you leave the house at least once a day. Just take advantage of the bins provided.0

To add to the above, if you use them for more than one child, and if you avoid tumble drying as much as possible, they can save you a fair bit over time. But generally, they're more used for the eco credentials than for saving actual money."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -
I always ask my neighbours on bin day if they mind me putting an extra bag in their bin, single lady next door hardly has any rubbish so dosent mind at all. its only garbage why would anyone mind you using their bin just before the truck rolls around?0

Depends what the Council is like, some won't collect if the lid is a millimeter open. You might not trust your neighbour to make sure it all fits in.0 -

Some people go to a lot of effort to reduce the volume of waste they create because they genuinely want less waste to go to landfill...they may not want someone else 'topping up' their bin with excess waste because they haven't made the same efforts.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
I am sure the bins you are supplied are ample for an 'average' family of four in your area but, as I well know, it is not always enough.
Clearly I could recycle more as I get through a lot of rubbish. Put it this way, we are a family of 2 and we have one grey bin. This is generally full within 1 week! Every other week, it is nearly certain I need to go to the tip with the extra stuff.
I do recycle bottles etc. but must admit I have no intention of seperating all my rubbish into the different coloured bins. Quite honestly, I have never used the recycle bins at all, the bottles simply go to the bottle bank.0 -

What??? Ok, for whatever reason, some people are careful what they throw away and keep their waste to a minimum but what difference does it make to them if they top up their bin with the neighbours last bag?0 -

Personally I think more people should make a real effort to reduce their waste and I wouldn't want to enable someone to continue generating an excessive volume of waste by helping them dispose of it . You may not be bothered about how much waste goes to landfill but I am.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
