Alternative to tiles in the bathroom

I am faced with having to either tile the bathroom (as we have a shower) or do something to stop the walls getting wet, etc.

I noticed this thread from years ago: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/266547 but wondered if anyone had anymore up-to-date links or advice?

Sorry to disagree Polly but "wet wall is fashionable" where?

Most wet wall consists of pretty dire designs so if you do want to go down that route go for simple neutral colours so you can alter other things to spruce it up later.

What is 'of the moment' is glass. We are doing a lot of designs with coloured glass walling and units. Obviously its toughened and more expensive per sq m to but but installation is far less than tiles or boarding. With the coatings now available that keep lime scale way its easy to clean too. I'm now finding that I'm using LED lighting to edge light it too so it glows almost by itself. It's a stunning effect and there is very little to compare with it for the WOW factor.

    Just my 3 penneth.

i saw very nicely fitted wet wall system last week, installer had done a great job, very neat.....and it still looked plastic and cheap. the myth about no mould is exactly that - a myth!

tiles tiles tiles - i know i'm biased but they look great for years, not 1 or 2

To be fair, ALL systems will suffer mould if ventilation and cleaning is inadequate.

With tiles however it is easier for it, the bacteria, to take hold as the grout is a much more porous surface, unless you go epoxy but that also makes it easier to deal with as, if installed correctly, you can re-grout without too much cost.

You pays your money you takes your choice...
