Sainsbury or Nationwide card help please

in Credit cards
I have been using a Sainsbury credit card for the last 2 years as I was offered double Nectar points in Sainsbury's.. This ran out a couple of months ago and I switched to my Nationwide card which gives me 1% cashback on all purchases..
I have just called Sainsbury to cancel their card and they tell me that this offer has been extended as it is popular.
So my brain is not brilliant and I wondered if anyone can help and tell me which is the better way to shop there. 1% cashback or double points each time.
You get 2 points per pound usually so I would get 4 per pound and 500 points equals £2.50. I would still get 2 points by using my cashback card it's just whether 2 extra would be better than the 1%.
I know I should be able to work this out but maths and me really don't get along. Thanks for any help given.

If you were not getting double points, the rewards from both cards would be equal ... 2 points for £1 spent is 500 points for £250 spent. As you say 500 points are worth £2.50, this is equal to 1% of the amount spent and therefore equal to the 1% cashback.
As you are getting double points, it is better to use the Sainsburys card as you will need only to spend £125 to get 500 points which is equivalent to 2% cashback.0 -
Ben you are my hero, thank you for working that out very much appreciated.0

How are you getting 1% Cashback on a Nationwide card? The advertised Cashback rate is 0.5%I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0
