Half way between Dubai and London

I am trying to organise a college get together in October somewhere warm, easily accessible from both Dubai and London. Some of my mates moved to Dubai, but most have settled and bought homes in London.
Where would you recommend? It's a bunch of guys and girls in their late 30s, so we want some place interesting and historic with a bit of a fun atmosphere. Needs to be reasonably safe, and easily accessible from the local airport
The two obvious candidates are Istanbul and Budapest, but is there anywhere else we should look at?

I think a Tel Aviv stamp might cause problems for the two guys trying to get back into Dubai.
Hadn't thought of Cyprus though.

I'm fairly sure there won't be any direct flights from Tel Aviv to Dubai.0
