Servis washing machine on it's way out??

We have a Servis washing machine which is only a few years old (I don't have the model number to hand so will check when I get home)

Last week it went so far through a wash then blew the trip switch. We were able to turn it back on again and it picked up where it left off, but about a dozen turns later, blew the trip again.

Changed the fuse. Same thing happened.

We then forwarded the cycle on through to spin and it finished the wash a-o-kay. Fuse obviously ok too.

Has been working fine since (we've 1 load on every day)

Just been on the phone to OH and it keeps blowing the trip again.

Any suggestions? I'm imagining a PCD or something but no idea where to start looking.

Will try to update with model number when I get home too.

Thank you :)

Have you considered the brushes on the motor?

We had an intermittent problem on a hotpoint and replacing the brushes resolved it. They went a couple of times subsequently and replacing them resolved it. Basically they were spring loaded to press on the rotor and when worn down at the end of their life didn't always make contactc to provide electricity. On that model they were < £10 a set and could easily be replaced from above.

  • Didn't know there were brushes on the motor :rotfl:

Thank you! Will have to attempt dismantling the machine tonight to have a look....

Does it only trip on a wash cycle?

If so it could be a worn or faulty heating element that is leaking enough current to earth to trip your RCD or MCB or whatever you have. That happened with our Indesit machine. A replacement element shouldn't be too expensive.

If it also trips on rinse and/or spin then you probably need to look elsewhere.

Don't mess with electricity unless you know what you are doing, especially when water and metal are involved.
  • Hmmmmm thanks for that.

Washing stopped again yesterday. OH tried forwarding it to spin but same thing happened. But. Left it a few hours and tried spin again and it worked. Very strange. Dodgy or loose connection in there somewhere.

Think we'd be as well with an electrician....

    Thanks for the replies :)

  • try looking for your local service centre, it doesn't necessary need to be one that only deals with your make & ask if they do free estimates, you will need a service engineer/repairman rather than a normal electrician
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • I'm baffled. Managed 2 loads yesterday no problem at all.

Figure there's a loose connection in there somewhere. Will get a repair guy if needed.

    Thanks all :)
