Typical of the variations in time taken to hit [or 'show'] on the account.....Tesco's are much slower than Morrison's, who typically show up 3 days after the transaction...yet the Worth Valley Railway transaction managed to show within 24 hours!

So...apart from saving the odd rainforest or two, what real advantage has the plastic card shown over the old cheque system? [from a consumer viewpoint?]

Long live Co-op...maybe...just maybe, their reluctance to join the 18th century [you'd have thought, being in Manchester, they'd have noticed the industrial revolution?]....makes them less prone to the glitches and upsets that other, more 'advanced' banks suffer on a daily basis?

Personally, I think the Co-op are a template for what this country really needs in banking...a 'peoples' bank, for the High Street...[People, as in those millions of us who are generally ignored as we bump along the economic bottom of the pond?......Ignored, that is/was, until all the comfortable economic sectors were saturated, and the finance industry embraced the sub-prime markets, for want of a better description? Purely for paper profit, of course.......bonus-chasers?]
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • Many thanks to everyone who replied. Gonna call co-op and see what they say, may also try for basic c/card as back-up - I go away for training courses & don't want to carry lots of cash "just in case"

Alastair - FWIW many years ago went for job interview with one of the co-ops for IT and was very impressed with their system practices & set-up, trying to do things right & proper as it where, shame didn't get job!

    Thanks again

  • I've just googled "Morrisons pay at pump co-operative".

I've got a Co-op cashminder account, and use it fine at Tesco's pay at pump. However yesterday I tried to use Morrisons and after getting all sorts of messages out of the machine, I filled up and went to pay in the kiosk instead. Bit frustrating, but seems like the Morrisons pumps can't do a real time check. Nevermind.

I wonder if the "pay as you go cards" such as Orange Cash will work, as they can't do a real-time check either.
