  • where you given the right to go to the FOS? I know there are various dates involved with PPI regulation(2005) and depending on the date of sale depends on the type of sale made. Sorry to be vague but just going on memories of what I have read on this site. If this was sold in debenhams the 'helpful' counter assistant probably filled the agreement out for you and then turned it around and pointed to where you had to sign. There was probably no mention of PPI at all and therefore I dont think this was sold correctly but you will def find the answers in this site somewhere. Please be aware Im a beginner at all this PPI stuff so if I end up leading you on a wild goose chase then Im very sorry. Good luck with it though!
  • Hi, I have just received the same letter from Santander advising that the account cover was applied when opened card in 2000. They state that the process that they had in place at time was to make clesr that it was not compulsory. Says I elected to take out insurance. Then a policy summary is sent and they offer a 30 day guarantee which they say I should have cancelled then.

Is this a no-go? thanks a lot. AA
  • I have also had the same letter regarding my River Island card through Santander. When I first phoned them they gave me a number to ring....dead line. I sent a letter and have had this one back saying that I put my application through on the phone, had a 30 no quibble cancellation and that I could clearly see 'Account Cover' written on my statement. The thing is 1. One of their sales people did the application in the store 2. I never had the ppi talk 3. Never saw anything on the 30 day no quibble cancellation and 4. Honestly, maybe me being thick, thought that account cover was protection on my purchases. Apparently it is purchase protection AND sickness, unemployment etc protection in one!! How stupid. It should be one or the other. Anyway, I have e:mailed their CEO at ceo@santander.co.uk to complain about the treatment I have had off them. My partner also had the same trouble with his Santander car loan - different answers from different advisers. He too has complained to the CEO. Worth a try. :)
