parking fine from 2004

Recived a letter from the balliffs two months ago for a parking fine i had received in 2004! Problem is never remember getting this fine. I have rung them and still they insist on sending people round to my home : (
I have rung the courts who have now promised me they will put everyting on hold for 1 month while they search for this so called fine.
I can not beleive that they can chase me for a debt thats 8yrs old and expect me to pay with no prove that this ticket ever exsisted!

Can anyone help with any advice on what else i can do?

Again, start your own thread and give a bit more info on who issued it, what stages you are at in the process etc.

Also, if this is a legit bailiff with a court order, posting on Pepipoo might also be worthwile.

    Private company or Council?

After this long it's too late anyway, 'statute barred' surely? Ask on the Debt Free Wannabe board or search MSE for 'statute barred' debt threads, find a wise regular on those threads and ask them.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hi everyone really need some advice on this as totally at a loose end...!

I recevied a notice form the balilliffs 'Phillips' stating i owed £175. When i phoned them to ask what the hell for they said it was from a parking ticket from 2004!! I told them i wanted to disupte it I rung the courts with on luck only being told they need a reg number of the car but unfortunley i do not have a clue as to what i was driving back then in fact i think it may have been a company van at that time to be told oh well i can not help you. Then next thing i know iv got the balliffs round trying to take my goods up to £400! I have rung the courts again who have now but the balliffs on hold for 1 month while i try and sort out this mess but just getting no where the courts are telling me they are looking into it but all i get is another refernce number and another number to ring............!

How do i satnd on having to pay this fine from 2004? I have never seen any evidence of this ticket :eek:
  • AFAIK its best that you do not acknowledge the debt in any way, it should be out of time but if you acknowledge it the clock starts again. Go to pepipoo as directed and post on there. Better minds than mine will help you.

Surely it's statute barred unless there is a judgement on it ? OP are you still working for that company still ? Because if it's a leased vehicle and it's a council ticket they would have paid it. My thinking it's a vehicle you owned at that time.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Thanks, well spotted :T I've merged the posts into this thread. Haven't deleted the two messages from the OP as each one contains different info.
  • Council parking ticket ? http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/showthread.php?30106-Philips-Bailiffs-!!!!!!! seems to suggest they're not beyond making a mistake in this instance. Further searches on http://www.legalbeagles.info/ indicate that they clearly show they mean business, even when they're in the wrong. I don't really understand how you wouldn't remember a claim being made against you, especially as an enforcement order would have to be made before bailiffs could be instructed.

    Quite simple really
    1) never his car
    2) moved house at same time and tickets etc went to wrong address and never caught up with them
    3) Council got wrong address as above
    4) Philips got his name but not the OP ie fishing expedition
There are other reasons but thats enough.
