Info on ticket machine differed from sign

I got a parking ticket because when I went to pay the machine stated that parking must be paid for up until 4.30pm. It was 5.12pm so I obviously didn't buy a ticket. I got back to find a PCN, and that the parking signs said no parking between 8am and 6.30pm.
Would this contradictory information be the basis for a successful appeal?

Who issued the ticket?, private company or a council? For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
Council, PCN.0

Get pics of machine and signs asap before they get a chance to chahge them.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Definitely appeal. Do you have a photo of the machine? Worth getting one before the council sneakily change the sign on it.
Don't be surprised if the council automatically reject your appeal - that's standard practice. You may need to go all the way to ajudication.
Worth going to the Council Parking Tickets & Clamping and Decriminalised Notices forum on Pepipoo, registering and starting a thread there. There are lots of experts there who will give you chapter and verse on what to do. They'll want the PCN scanned, anonymised and uploaded.0 -

I think it might well be - Do as advised above and get pics of the machine.
Another possibility is that you may have paid at a machine for a different zone with different restrictions. I and a couple of others here have been caught by that one before and had tickets cancelled after being able to show that the machine I should have paid at was much further away and less visible than the machine I used.0 -
Thanks for the help - definitely the right machine, definitely signs saying no parking before 6.30pm, but contradictory information on the machine, 'Charging hours Monday to Friday 9.15am to 4.30pm'. So it's this incorrect information that I would base an appeal on.0

So can you link us to your pepipoo thread please so we can follow it and see when you win? If you can't post links opn MSE yet then post almost all of it, just remove the http:// from the front and we can convert it back to a full linky.
You will need to start a new pepipoo topic like the others you see on the link already given, with photos or scans of both sides of your PCN and pics of the lines & signs. Don't delay because pepipoo will help people with Council PCNs win, in almost every case.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I put up the photo I took yesterday, I don't really have a problem with the signage and lines etc.
I notice there's some text in red that's not readable, that starts No Parking - I'll be cycling past the machine on Monday so can get another photo and see what that text says. Pretty sure it's not relevant else I'd have picked up on it when I read the machine at the time.

Thanks! You need to show them a close up pic of both sides of the PCN. At the moment we/they know nothing about the small print & details on the PCN (just cover the PCN number and car reg, leave all dates & location visible).
You say ''I don't really have a problem with the signage'' but surely you do? When you go back to get a closer pic of the red writing on the machine, you need to also get a picture of the sign that says ''no parking between 8am and 6.30pm'' because it's crucial. Clearly it contradicts the machine's charging hours.
Although I do see small print on the machine that also says 'maximum stay 30 mins'. Very small writing. Very appealable.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
