Car Insurance: Fronting or Anything Else?

Hi,
Ok I'm not sure what we're doing is illegal or anything else, I suspect it's slightly grey. But is really only intended as a short term solution till the insurance policy is up.
Myself and my Girlfriend both have good no claims bonuses. We both also have crappy 10+ years old cars.
Mine is a diesel and hers is a petrol.
She has fully comprehensive insurance in her name, which allows her to drive another car third party and I am a named driver on this policy.
I have fully comp insurance on my car though this doesn't allow me to drive another car third party.
She recently got a new job with a much further commute than mine. As I have a diesel it is cheaper for her to drive this and me use the petrol car for my shorter commute.
Both policies cover commuting as well as social and domestic cover. On weekends we drive our own respective cars. Also all cars are insured to the same address. I know we are covered but if there was an accident would our insurance wriggle out of the situation. At the time of insuring both vehicles all facts provided to the insurers were 100% correct.
Also on a separate note what is the best move for when we renew the policies? Transfer the log book for each car, so my GF owns my car which she drives to commute and I own hers etc.
Cheers
Ben

You need to read the terms of the Driving Other Cars part of your g/friends policy. Almost all these days say it is "for emergencies" etc and so if they got wind that this is a regular occurrence then there could be issues.
Also, whilst you do have TPO cover whilst driving other cars you almost certainly get no Legal Expenses cover and so if she had a non-fault accident then she is basically on her own to sort it out (or at best at the mercy of ambulance chasers)
Given your relative histories you will probably find it reduces your premiums to add her to your policy as a named driver (though doing it mid term may incur an admin fee)0 -
Nothing grey in what you are doing, all above board. If you are the main driver of her car now, the insurer needs informing.
(Her third party cover means if she inflicts any damage to your car, or an unidentified third party inflicts damage whilst she is in charge, then it isn't covered by any insurance.)
Instead of changing log book details, why not add her as a named driver?0 -

Not one I've ever seen and doesn't sound likely as it's way way too subjective.
Which companies say that?0 -
Ok, agree, the wordings have changed.... the RBS Ins ones all used to try and say it... and yes it was very subjective and thus not really enforceable (probably why removed)0

Assuming you are both named drivers on each others policies then the 'driving other cars' is irrelevant.
Presumably when you took the policies out you were the main driver of your own car. If this has changed then insurers should be informed.0 -
Its not mentioned if she if named on your policy also. Or just driving it 3rd party cover.
Get her name added. And maybe a good idea to swap cars. Save any grief in future.
The only thing my driving other cars part mentions now is that the car must be insured by someone else.
Not uninsured or SORN etc.
So if your insurance runs out i cannot drive it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
