missed first payment on c.card!

Hi guys.

Just want a bit of advice.
I managed to get a Barclaycard "initial" c card purely to transfer a balance off my old extremely high APR vanquis card which has now been cancelled
:).
I set up the direct debit over 2 weeks before the first payment was due and had it confirmed on the Barclaycard website by a small tick saying that the DD was set up sucessfully and it quoted my bank account.

I assumed everything was fine and left it.
First payment was due 30th July but when i checked on the 31st it hadnt been taken out?
I quickly made an immediate payment but 2 days later got hit with a late payment charge of £12. It also said on the Barclaycard website that "as i havnt kept to the terms and conditions of my agreement, my introductory rate on the balance transfer and other intial offer APR's no longer apply"

I have since rang Barclaycard and they agreed it was a banking error and refunded the late payment and they also re-established the initial bal transfer offer etc etc.
It still states on my account though that the initial bal transfer offer etc STILL doesnt apply anymore?

My question is, will they honour their agreement to reinstate the initial rates etc and also more importantly, will it show on my credit file as a missed/default payment?? Bit worried at the moment as want to get a mortgage in the near future!

Any advice or anwers would be greatly appreciated!

Did you record the call, or have full details of the date and time and person who you spoke with? It may well be 'lag' on the info screen you are viewing but it often pays to keep notes if it doesn't work out. if the rebate is showing, then it will be easier to prove. Also check your credit file in case it shows as a late or missed payment.

The systems are quick to send the info automatically, but it requires manual intervention to reverse.

The fact that they refunded the late payment penalty possibly proves it was not your fault. Whether a red late payment entry on your credit report is applied depends on how quickly they report to the CRAs. The only way of knowing is to get your credit report. You probably have a good case to have Barclaycard remove it if it's on there. First you'll have to go through their complaints procedure and if you don't get satisfaction take it to the Financial Ombudsman.

It sometimes takes time to update their system. Have another look in a few days to see if the balance transfer bar is still applied to your account. Again a reasonable case to take to their complaints procedure and the Financial Ombudsman if you don't get satisfaction.

    Too late...2 weeks too late!

The DD has to be in place before the statement is produced for it to collect that statement's balance (or minimum payment if you selected that option). You will have been notified of this, either verbally or in writing (on screen or by letter). This is to comply with the DD guarantee, which says they have to give you 10 days notice of both the amount and date to be collected, and the only mechanism they have for this is the monthly statement.

They may refund the fee as a goodwill gesture, but any late payment marker will stand I'm afraid.

    Good luck!

I agree with what yorky said. You may have had some CS drone tell you it was a bank error, but this is the normal procedure industry wide for DD's. If it's not mentioned on a statement, it's not gonna take.
  • Thanks for yor input guys.

I have secure messaged Barclaycard from my account page on their website, I said this to them:

"I hope you can help me.

I have a problem with a "missed payment".
It was to be my first payment to this card after I had transfered my existing card balance.

I was due to make my first payment of £20 on the 30th of July and instructed my bank to make payments to yourselves via Direct Debit.
This was set up over two weeks before my first payment was due and it was also showing as correctly set up on my Barclaycard account page with a "tick" next to it.
I therefore assumed everything would be ok but the payment didn't go through for some reason and I had to make a direct payment the following day (31st July).

I incurred a "late payment" fee which I have since had refunded to me after a phone call made to yourselves.
I was also informed that my initial interest rate and balance transfer rate would revert back to what they were originally.
This doesn't seem to have happened according to my account page.

Can you clarify my position and would it be possible for you to correct the information shown on my account page?
Also, will my credit file be marked with a missed payment/default because of the error?
I set everything up as I should have yet for some reason the payment didn't go through.

I hope you can resolve this for me as soon as possible.

    Regards,

    ***** *****"

    To which they replied:

    Dear Mr *****

    Thank you for your message

I would like to inform you that the promotional balance has been re-priced to the promotional rate of 6.9% interest per annum until the life of the balance on 08/08/2012.

On your Barclaycard account the direct debit was initially set up on 29/06/2012 and it was cancelled online on 20/07/2012 hence no payment was taken on 30/07/2012. We received your payment of £20.00 on 31/07/2012.

As we received your payment before the August statement generated on 06/08/2012 hence it will be not be reported to the credit reference agencies.

I hope this information is of help.

If you have any further queries feel free to contact me.

Now going off what they have said, it seems to me to be settled and no bad mark will go against my name on my credit file but can anyone in the "know" see any issue with this?

One other point I would like to make.
I am currently transfering from Co Op to Barclays and am using Barclays account swapping service at present.
I am sure that the main reason for the missed payment is because of a mix up in the transfer process but I cannot prove this?

What would be my next move??

    Thanks again for your input.
  • Also guys, there are these bullet points at the bottom of my account page on Barclaycard.
I am concerned that, as my complaint seems to have been upheld, that the highlighted red paragraphs are still showing on my account page.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me??

    Your promotional rate

As your account hasn't been run in accordance with the offer conditions your 0.561% promotional rate will now revert to your standard purchase rate of 2.207% .
    Your promotional rate

As your account hasn't been run in accordance with the offer conditions your 0.000% promotional rate(s) will now revert to your standard purchase rate of 2.207% .
    BALANCE TRANSFER

Where interest is payable on your BALANCE TRANSFER it will be charged this month at an interest rate of 0.561% .
    Promotional Spending

Where interest is payable on your Promotional Spending it will be charged this month at an interest rate of 0.000% .
    Minimum Payments

If you make only the minimum payment each month, it will take you longer and cost you more to clear your balance.
You have failed to make a minimum payment

Failing to make your minimum payment can mean that you have broken the terms of this credit agreement and could result in us taking legal action against you. It could lead to you having to pay additional costs and make it more difficult for you to obtain credit in future.
    Dispute resolution

If you have a problem with your agreement, please try to resolve it with us in the first instance. If you are not happy with the way in which we handled your complaint or the result, you may be able to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service. If you do not take up your problem with us first you will not be entitled to complain to the Ombudsman. We can provide details of how to contact the Ombudsman.
If you do not pay the full amount outstanding

we will allocate your payment to the outstanding balance in specific order, which is set out in the 'Things you need to know' section. The way in which payments are allocated can make a significant difference to the amount of interest you pay until the balance is cleared completely.

    Thanks again.

Good to hear you got good result. as far as those dot points go, the updates are probably just going through the motions, so I wouldn't be worried.
  • Hi tomsco.

Yeah, looks like they have upheld my complaint.
Thank god because I have only just been given the card!
I will keep an eye on my account page though to check for it updating and removing those bad points.
Have sent a secure response to them just asking for those points to be removed. Cant do any harm.

Fingers crossed everything is ok when my credit reports update themselves.
  • Just a quick update.

Have got both Experian and Equifax files.
Barclaycard doesnt appear on Experian just yet ( but this may be to do with me updating my address details so will see).
Equifax however, Barclaycard shows both July and August as showing two green ticks so I think they have kept their end of the deal up.
Will wait to see what Experian reveals when it has been updated.

    Looking good so far though.......
