hotels near brixton academy and has anyone used LondonTown to book hotel?

Just wondering if anyone can answer either of these questions please...

Husband has booked concert tickets to brixton academy in Oct and now I'm looking for a hotel....

1. Am I better off looking for a hotel in another part of London - as there doesn't seem to be any near to brixton academy, unless anyone has any suggestions! And if so will it be safe to walk to tube station at approx 11.30 on a Friday night?

2.Has anyone ever used Londontown website to book a hotel - are they ok, as there prices are far cheaper then anywhere else.

We go to London a lot for concerts, but usually just book a hotel, that's very close to venue, but never been to brixton. Hotel needs to be safe, and an ensuite room, apart from that I'm open to anything.

Thank you.

  • The Academy is about 100 yards from the tube station in a busy area, plus there c15 different bus routes all stopping outide the station. Getting somewhere else won't be a problem. It's as safe as anywhere else - there will be a fair amount of people who might be a little...merry...but I go through Brixton at that sort of time most weeks and I've never seen real trouble.
  • I agree with Barbara completely.

Brixton's great for eating and drinking and great for getting to other parts of London.

But for some suggestions: there are a couple of hotels by Clapham Common, one the Windmill (a pub) is on the common. This is a quick bus ride from Brixton. There are loads of hotels near Victoria station - a quick tube trip from Brixton.

Thank you both for your answers.

Think I'll properly book a hotel near Victoria (as we'll be travelling to London by train.) Didn't even consider buses - as where I live your lucky to see a bus after 7pm in evening lol! But as I don't like the tube late at night, think a bus will also be a good solution, so thanks for this.

Number 2 goes from outside the Academy to Victoria - would take about 20 minutes at that time. Or it's 4 stops on the tube.
  • Have a look at Lastminute and see their secret hotel deals. If you're interested in one, copy and paste the description into google and you should be able to find out which it is. They're pretty obvious really. I've used it twice recently and both were fab!!!!!

I used to live in London and the Academy is my fav venue ever!!!! Saw some great gigs there, am slightly jealous even without knowing who the artist is ;-))

    Have a great time.
