kitchen worktop

i'm having some kitchen furniture made, including a unit to house the belfast sink. i had intended to have a wooden drainer/worktop but am not sure. will the wood suffer from mould growth if it is always damp? is there a particular wood which would be ok? what about a slate drainer? would this need to be sealed? with what?

Tend to use hardwood for worktops in this situation and no it won't get mouldy because you'll be keeping it oiled
