Freeview - slight problem

Freeview box and tv work fine, no problems, nothing has changed in their set up. Box and TV been working fine in current set up for the past 5 years

The first day of the olympics, me and other half set the freeview box to do a re-scan to see if it could pick up any new channels. It couldn't but we did get BBC 1 normal as opposed to BBC Scotland which is what we normally have

The problem is this, ever since we did that re-scan .. I always turn the box off but clicking it on to stand by and then off at the plug.

... For some reason, when I switch it back on again, I have lost ITV, C4 and C5 plus whatever is on channel 6 so I then have to do another re-scan in order to pick them back up again

A work mate suggested leaving box on for a night so that it could save the channels so I did that tues-wed and it worked, I didn't have to re-scan to pick up ITV cos it was still there. Great I thought, so switched off as normal

Come to tonight and I've had to re-scan again to pick up ITV channels

Any ideas as to whats happened and how to fix it please ?

You need to do a MANUAL re-tune of your Freeview box.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

Also further to Dave_C have a look in the manual for a 'Hard reset', I had an old freeview box that used to not rescan correctly either via add more channels or first time installation, so I had to hard reset it in order to make it work properly,
this in normally done by holding down a button or two while plugging it in.

Sounds like it may have found more channels than it can store permanently. Have a look in channels nos 800+ for duplicates.

Also agree with the manual scan advice. Goto www.tvretune.co.uk, enter your postcode and then expand 'how do I retune' and it will give you the channels numbers you need to do a manual retune.

A lot of older boxes can't cope with the recent upgrades to the freeview service, especially after the introduction of HD.
Buy a new box, and don't keep switching the thing off at the wall they are designed to be left on standby so any over-air upgrades can be recieved.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Fixed the link http://tvretune.co.uk/ excellent site as it gives the Mux. channel numbers for manual tune.

Doing an auto-scan with the aerial unplugged should clear the stored channels.

Also my ageing Philips box and the el cheapo Asda box work just fine even after the new upgrades. The Philips one does need a manual scan though.

Mine isn't! The instructions do suggest switching it off from standby to save settings, but even that doesn't seem to be necessary.
I know many will disagree, but I switch everything off when not in use! Fridge and Freezer are the only things constantly "in use".

I switch everything off as well, when not in use
