Does a Paypal transaction count towards the Halifax Clarity/Rewards £300 threshold?

I'm looking to buy something for about £120 from an overseas supplier and I can either pay direct by creditcard or Paypal. I'm tempted to go with Paypal because of the additional protection. Would this count as a purchase or as a money transfer if I funded the Paypal account through my Halifax rewards card?

Paypal doesn't provide extra protection, paying with directly with a credit card would get you Section 75 protection which is statutorily enforced.
I think I've seen within another thread that when paying using these "gateway" payment systems (eg Paypal, NoChex etc) that you actually lose such protection...?0 -
I think if the retailer is overseas then this may have an effect on claiming under Section 75.3 stone down, 3 more to go0

It depends on the supplier. Sometimes I feel more secure paying with Paypal than handing my CC details over, even though it means losing S75 protection.0 -

Yes, you lose Section 75 protection as you're paying the gateway and they've completed the arrangement to transfer the money. Think of it like using Western Union to pay someone then complaining to your card provider they didn't send you anything. It depends on the supplier. I personally always choose to pay direct but it is a balance on how you feel about sharing your details. If any fraud is committed with the details though the card issuer is liable anyway and I do have backup cards to use in case that does happen.0
