My partner has just got a new car through work which is business insurance he also has his own car which he will probably sell he has the idea from some where that now he has business insurance he is only allowed to drive his work car . He has got an idea that as he is main driver it will stop him driving his own personal car as he can only drive his work car and be insured is there any truth in this or is it rubbish ?

As above, you can be the main driver of as many policies/ vehicles as you wish and these can be personal lines or business.
The possible area of confusion is over NCD which can only be used on one policy at a time but again a single person can hold multiple NCDs.
If you do have a small fleet of vehicles it can be more cost effective to look at a fleet policy rather than insuring them individually, especially if the number of cars out numbers the number of drivers0
