Credit Card Refusal

I applied for a Tesco Credit Card. I normally use my JL Partnership card for all Credit Card transactions but think earning Tesco Points may be better than the JL vouchers so thought I'd get a Tesco card and cancel my partnership card. Anyway, I've been turned down for a Tesco Card, when I asked why (I always pay my current card off, own my own home, no mortgage etc in fact I owe no one anything) I was told to contact Experian because I failed their credit checks. I went on web site and found Experian offer a 30 day free trial via Credit Expert, is this right? I filled in the form for my free trial and now they want household bills etc - surely I should be able to find out what info someone has about me without going through this whole malarky. I've always thought I must have a really good credit rating as I'm in the black but clearly not - it's awful thinking someone has info about you which makes a credit card refuse you credit when I'm very credit worthy - what do I do now?

you need a copy of your credit file to see if the info is accurate and what it says

are you on the electoral roll?
    what's your salary?
are you financially linked with anyone (spouse maybe)?

Tesco seems to refuse people with not much credit history or who don't have many credit products and pay everything off.

They are not sure that it is you who is requesting the information.

Bear in mind that the credit reference agencies (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit) are businesses in their own right. They exist for no other reason than to make money for their owners/shareholders.

They collect a load of information from financial companies and stick it all together - this gives lenders a 'picture' of you and helps them (lenders) to decide if you are a potential customer.

They, the CRAs, don't decide that you are 'credit worthy' or not. Only the lenders do that.

To be honest, this would ring some alarm bells with me automatically.

By the sounds of it the credit reference agency is having problems identifying you or validating you are you. If this has happened when you apply to them it is likely to also happen when you apply to a lender.

A "no match" return from a CRA is going to be an instant decline with 99% of credit issuers.

I had a similar issue with a previous place I lived in as there were a dozen ways to enter the address and unless I gave the exact way that the CRA had it entered then a no match would be returned.
