Hi, hoping for some advise,I bought an item from preloved, seller asked if I would pay by bank transfer, rather than paypal as she wanted the money take her kids to a horse show(it was only £15) I stupidly trusted her and did that straight away, she said it hadnt gone in to her a/c(it was a friday afternoon) so would have to wait till the monday to check it there and post item, I enquired on the monday, yes was in her a/c she would post item straight away,i didnt receive it,was fobbed off with oh you should have it by now, i'll check the tracking. etc etc, culminating with,I've just had a baby,I'll refund your money and keep the item(which remember she supposed to have sent!!)sent her paypal details ...2 weeks later...zilch. :mad:Incidentally, having looked her up on social networking site,if she's just had a baby,I'll give her another £15 cos she'll need it at her age!!Its not a lot of money but its not about the money,if it costs me ten times that to get her to pay me back it'll be worth it, she has readvertised the item on preloved and sold it(I got someone else to enquire) Preloved to be honest have been no help,Any suggestions please

The bank will not give the money back. How do the bank know who is telling the truth.0 -
I dont know her address,I do know her full name and town, also obviously her bank details and telephone number,I've also got the messages she sent me,both text and email, which confirm all the crap she told me.I'll just say dont buy any horsey stuff from anyone called Shirley from Dorset!0

If you have all that why not send her a Letter Before Action - if she doesn't refund your money take her to small claims court.
Save (and print out) all communications you have ready for the court case. If you win she will be asked to repay your £15 + the cost of bringing the claim.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Yes, you need an address to serve court papers.
Personally, I think you are stuffed in this current situation, nor would I go to great lengths to recover such a small amount of money.
Have you talked to Preloved yet? what do they suggest? Do they wash their hands of it saying they just bring the community together rather than regulate any of the transactions between private sellers?Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Sorry - skim read and thought the OP had said she did know the address.Don't you need a full address for that?
Mind you, there are ways to find it.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Very very common scam, there are several Facebook groups set up to warn people about using bank transfers to pay strangers. The problem is that every time someone posts a warning about bank transfers there are half a dozen people saying it is safe as you can just get your money back- which is nonsense.
I'm sorry but with so little Information about the seller I think you can wave goodbye to your money.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
