Savings, Comparisons and the Single Person

Hi.
I'm sure this has come up before.. But please indulge me.

I've been with the same dual electricity and gas people (Scottish) since I "inherited" them with my house, five years ago.

I want to look into making savings. The first thing I did was sign up for the "Which?" survey/auction. I don't know my exact useage in kws etc, so I went for an estimate, based on the number of rooms etc etc. The verdict was that I probably use upwards of £1000 worth of electricity and gas p.a... And could therefore make savings.

The thing is, I know I use much less than this. I rather think other comparison sites would reach the same conclusion.

I was wondering if any single people living alone in medium-sized houses (yes, I know I'm lucky!) have made economies by shopping around? Or are the prices much of a muchness for singletons with low useage?

Thanks.

You first step is to find out your annual consumption of gas and electricity. Your bill should provide this information, just make sure its based on actual and not estimated amounts. If not phone your supplier and ask.
Then use a comparison site and you should find that Robert becomes a close relative.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Cost is not based on occupancy but rather usage (and location).

For a low user (e.g. gas: 6000kWh per year; electricity 1200kWh per year), living in the Midlands area, energyhelpline.com indicates the cheapest annual cost would be £451 and the most expensive £801.

Why not check your potential savings?
But you will need actual consumption figures as penrhyn explained.

Afraid that would be the conclusion...

    Many thanks!
