"However, the repair or replacement must be carried out within a reasonable time and without causing significant inconvenience to the consumer. If this does not happen or the repair or replacement is not possible, then the consumer can cancel the contract (claim a refund) or request a reduction in purchase price."

This is subject to interpretation. I would have thought a reasonable interpretation is that if "specialist" (ie non DIY) packaging is needed for it to travel safely, then the seller should supply it. If this is not possible then you can cancel the contract and claim a refund.

Is it reasonable however to expect a consumer to keep every box for up to 6 years in the event of a fault occurring?

A 30" monitor box will take up a lot of space (particularly in a small environment such as a 1 bed room flat.. although this may not be the case with the OP)

Storage is not the sellers problem. The sellers have supplied suitable return packaging 3 months ago and OP did not retain it. I've been in one bedroom flat and managed to retain packaging (receipt inside) until item expires/I get rid. It's really not difficult.

Packaging a monitor for return does not require specialist packaging. It can easily be done DIY if you are willing to do so.

That may well be your reasonable interpretation.

Remember, the seller has already supplied suitable packaging once.

The OP has thrown it away.
