Employment status while training

Hi guys,
I'm currently on a full time integrated pilot training course. I want to apply for a Nationwide Select credit card for free foreign transactions.
I just gave it a try with my status listed as unemployed, and an income of £2000 (interest on savings.) It gave me a quote but then after I clicked next it said I didn't qualify and I'd be getting a letter confirming it soon.
1) Does being on a full time training course make my employment status a student rather than unemployed? Would this help my application?
2) I also have other sources of income (matched betting, selling things, gifts from relatives etc) that up my income to over £6000. Is it alright to put 6k instead of 2k?
3) Did they do a full credit check that will be seeable by others? It says it's a no obligation quote that wouldn't appear unless you accept it, but by accepting it and then them saying no will it now appear.
Thanks!

I think you can put student. If your income is 6k a year then put 6k. Do you get any further income for being on that course?
Yes the search will now be seen by other lenders, but don't worry unless you've made lots of applications recently.
I assume you use the flex account as your "main account", in which case your details should have matched the existing details that nationwide have for you. If there was a discrepancy, that may be why you got rejected. You can try again in 6 months if you really want it.
Off topic, but on an income of 6k, can you really afford to go abroad and spend enough money on a credit card to make this worthwhile?0
