Clydesdale Bank - Customers in South

Early April this year Clydesdale Bank announced it was moving out of the South of England and in the process intended to 'dump' (Times Newspaper wording not mine) some 60,000 customers in the South of England. I am one of those customers and have found rather spurious charges etc. arising from policy changes, (unnannounced), that have taken place. For example Merchant Services receipts now go into bank after close of business for the date they are listed as going into the bank on the bank statement not start of business as before so the money is 'lost' for one day and cannot be used. It was the published case that moneys received prior to 3.30 pm would be used to offset moneys going out of the account. Like many small businesses I operate with more than one bank account and move money across in the morning to meet moneys going out. I notified the bank by email, (as I always had done), that I was moving moneys in via faster pay. Printed off a bank statement on internet banking to make sure the money had moved across OK and then found after 3.30 pm all cheques (wages cheques for staff) were bounced despite cleared funds being shown on the account to fully meet all these cheques. I received an email at lunch time to say as long as money was in by 3.30 the cheques would be met. I emailed back to say money was already in bank. All cheques bounced then I received another email to say that I had to have the money in the bank 'prior to start of business day' which is a nonsense - how do you move money in prior start of business day when you don't know till start of business day what is going out. No explanation of why the policy had been 'retrospectively' changed. Clydesdale aren't doing this to get the money from spurious charges, (I am now in court to recover these sums), they simply are messing these 60,000 clients around in the hope they will 'voluntarily' leave and move elsewhere. If you have similar problems suggest you write to the FSA as well as the Financial Ombudsman - so that the FSA can deal with this as a 'class action' against the 60,000 clients they wish to dump not just on a case by case basis.

Agree with opinions4U you might want to try putting in a few paragraphs and full stops, I gave up reading after it got to the Merchant services bit.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Many bank accounts have conditions that require funds to be available at the close of the previous day. If your account doesn't have such a condition you should complain.0
