                    Hello
I purchased something on my credit card and returned it but the place I bought it from had not refunded my card a few months later so I wrote to the credit card company and they refunded me themselves. A few months later I got the actual refund from the company I bought the item from. I have waited about 6 months expecting the credit card company to take back their money but nothing has happened yet. Is there any rules about this - can they take it back whenever they like?
Thanks in advance!

have you thought about calling themDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I don't think they monitor your account to check for the refund as you appear to be expecting.
It's up to you to notify them - certainly morally and possibly as part of your terms and conditions.
If you knowing kept the money - arguably it's theft (permanent and deliberate deprivation) but in practice it's impossible for anyone to prove you intentionally kept the money as opposed to didn't notice.
The sensible thing to do here is to call them, email or send a secure message and ask them to take the money back. Then you're in the clear both morally and legally.0 -
I was refunded twice in past: credit card refunded the money first and then seller after a month. It was small amount so I didn't bother contacting anyone. I assumed the bank will take it back automatically. It was around 18 months ago and no one wanted money back.0

Keeping any money wrongly credited to your account, could lead to you being charged with ‘Retaining wrongful credit’. The 1968 Theft act defines this as: "A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it".

The Bank/Credit Card company won't have given anything back, both refunds will have been recharged to the seller's merchant account, when they notice it they will be the one chasing the details (perhaps using the credit card company as an intermediary)0
