re-opened car insurance

In December 2010, I reversed into a newspaper stand in a petrol forecourt.
(I guess looking back it was not shielded or protected , and it was on wheels could even have not been level with the curb) Never the less I advised my insurance company.
In August 2011 , I received my renewal, the incident was showing as outstanding and a recovery not made. higher premium
I queried with this then, and the Insurance Company advised as they had not heard from the petrol Company , they would close off the claim . reduced premium new paperwork sent.
In August 2012 , I received my renewal , the incident was showing as , status notified, recovery yes.
I called on the day of expiry of the policy to renew, I was told by phone that the premium had gone up from what was on the renewal invitation, when I asked why this was they could not tell me. I called back the following day and spoke to a different department , who advised the incident has been re-opened and had not yet been settled.

Does this sound correct ?

many thanks

AS different people are giving you different answers, you need to get back to your insurer to clarify this with someone in authority there.

The third party has 6 years to make a claim against you, so maybe the garage or their insurer is doing so now.
