Cash on holiday

Thank you for the replies. I really wasn't intending to start an argument.

I should have explained a bit more. The venues that I am visiting do NOT take credit cards. They require cash. So paying with my credit card is not an option. As I am paying for three people, it is quite a bit of cash. I do have a post office credit card and one with my bank, but all the cards I have looked at charge a fee for cash withdrawal. If I draw the maximum, I will still have to carry a lot of cash.

I will be travelling in Italy and Paris.

There is no argument.

Cash Passport Globe allows withdrawals of £600 per day(Practically, imagine that as €600 for the purpose of pending transactions etc)). Did you click through and peruse the links?
If you need more, get two or three(using parent's details if necessary).

No cash withdrawal fee as aforementioned.

The cash passport card looks interesting. Is it safe? In other words, is the company safe? It looks as though the Cash Passport Currency might work too.

Ok, just checked out some reviews of the Travelex card and I don't think I'll be risking that. Very bad overall.

Or the Halifax Clarity, if you have time (can't remember how long it takes).

Good for cash as the only charge is interest, it'll be much cheaper than any pre-paid card. Pay it off as soon as you get back off holiday to minimise interest. £500 per day cash withdrawal limit.

Did you find a negative review for the Cash Passport GLOBE?

Different name, different card.

Many on this forum use it without mishap.

If your bank offers Faster Payments, then set that up so that you can transfer money to the Prepaid card when necessary. That way it will be re-loaded within 24 hours. Perhaps easier than having to call from abroad.
You can check online that everything is fine.

Do you have another option with as high a daily cash limit, especially one that charges only 0.99% to 1.49% off the Mastercard Wholesale rate?

The cheapest way to get cash abroad is a fee-free debit card like Metro Bank's.


The cheapest way to get cash abroad that doesn't involve opening a new bank account, credit checks, etc is the TravelEx Cash Passport Globe card.


This has been discussed to death on these boards, and the TravelEx Globe card is always being recommended. My ex-wife and kids are abroad at the moment, so I organized getting her a TravelEx Globe card to send her money and it works very well. I transfer money into it, she withdraws it in foreign currency. I don't care how many negative reviews you've seen (which were probably not for the Globe card anyway), as far as I'm concerned it's a good card.

The Kalixa card is better value for large cash withdrawals - which the OP was after.
