I ordered an item from Hong Kong and paid on 25th February. It was relatively small value (£7.68), and delivery was expected within 10-14 days. I contacted the seller on 15th March and he asked me to wait a bit longer. Fair enough, no problem. I tried to contact him again today and found that he's no longer registered with ebay.
So I've opened a PayPal dispute. Easy peasy. The only thing I'm wondering about is the 45 day limit. If the seller doesn't refund me, do I have to escalate the claim before that period in order to (possibly) be refunded by PayPal? Or is just having made the claim within the time frame enough?

should have started the claim from within the eBay dispute console.
Think i'm right in saying that even though eBay would have referred you to paypal, if the seller didnt respond within 10 days you would have got your money back.0 -
you have 45 days to open a dispute then you can escalate it to a claim any time within 20 days of the date the dispute started.

Ebay won't help one iota.
Similar thing happened to me when I bought an item from a seller for £13.00. He, then got unregistered.
Ebay's response was nothing short of pathetic. As the item was under £15.00they couldn't do anything.
I, then filed a paypal dispute and it took them a whopping 30 days to decide in my favour that I never got my item and that I was due a refund. A few days later they informed me that the seller had no funds in his paypal account so that I could not get refunded.
Had to get a credit card chargeback in the end.0 -
Thanks for your help! I wanted to make sure that the seller has time to respond to my claim and not escalate right away, so I'm glad I've got the 20 days.
I did start the claim in ebay and they referred me to PayPal due to the fact that it was a small value item.0 -

There is no point in trying to go through ebay where paypal was used. The ebay dispute is only for people paying by cheques and such like and as it has a set £15 fee would not have covered the OP in this case anyway.
As for the time limit in paypal dealing with the chargeback, it is approx 30 days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
