They even had the cheek to ask why I was not on the electrol roll, what relevance is this? I dont vote and never will, so I dont understand why they even asked this, I find this defaming and offensive.
The reason for this is fairly straightforward - sometimes, people will claim for items they own on their parents insurance even once they've moved out (usually because they didn't take out any insurance of their own). It's a legal requirement to be on the electoral roll, so it raises warning flags when an adult claiming to live in the property is not on it.
For future reference, it's also worth being on there because your credit file is positively affected by finding a match on the electoral roll.0 -
So - how long before the robbery was the photo of all the jewellery posted on facebook? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Were the expensive items like the watch & bangles specified on your mums policy?First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

I would also like to offer some advice on this event
That very thoughtful.
We have a small safe (the kind that hotels use) that is bolted to the fabric of the building in a hidden place.
I know people say that these aren't considered sufficient by insurers, but I believe it would take some considerable time and considerable noise to remove the safe so I believe it has some merit.
Many thefts are opportunisitic and only last a few minutes so it would help in this case although it sounds like yours was longer.
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
My other tip if you have lots of jewelry is to make an inventory.0 -
Could be several issues holding things up.
You not being on the electoral role.
You have admitted to undervaluing your claim.
Were some of the items over the 'per item' threshold? Most insurance policies have a maximum claim per item which is why if you own expensive jewelry it's often better to insurer it separately.
The facts you have stated in this thread could be taken by some to describe a set up (most burglaries don't involve Hetty the Hoover being taken, internal doors being kicked down (why would they need to?!) and clothes being taken). This might have piqued the insurers curiosity.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
You have to understand that your insurers need reasonable proof to pay out a claim of £21k. To be honest from your post, you are not always doing yourself (or your parents) any favours. They are not going to pay out £14k for jewewllery just because you say that’s what it was worth.
I’ve never been a victim of this but hate the idea. A couple of observations below but I realise the accuracy of what is said on an internet forum isn’t as important as the way a claim is presented.Hi everyone,
3 months ago, I had just got back from work and was on the way to my parents house. They even had the cheek to ask why I was not on the electrol roll, what relevance is this? I dont vote and never will, so I dont understand why they even asked this, I find this defaming and offensive. She obviously never believed this would happen and had so much jewellery it would be impossible to write everything down
everything they asked for including proof of purchase and proof of ownership have been provided.
my mums Jewellery collection was so extensive, its impossible to state a valuation.
I have lost my current contract as a freelance operations manager due to this event, with no laptop and the tools I need, I am unable to perform any work for them.0
